The Blackfoot Tribe
"Blackfeet warrior" by Karl Bodmer
The Blackfoot tribe is built up of four nations, three in Canada and one in the Unites States. In the United States there are about 10,000 living Blackfoot peoples. They have always resided in the Northern plains and most of the population still lives there to this day. The tribe is known to be hardy and long-lived. They stay in physical good shape.
In history the Blackfoot people were mostly nomadic, following the buffalo herds. They lived in skin tipis. As a part of their culture the people of the Blackfoot tribe participate in a local Sun Dance, hold high councils, and elect their head chief. Today all of the Blackfoot tribe members speak English and about half of the population still retain the Blackfoot language.
