The Navajo Tribe
"Canyon Chanters" by David K. John
The Navajo tribe lived in the mountains of Arizona and New Mexico. They are part of the Apache nation. In history the Navajo tribe learned useful arts from their contact with the Pueblos and the Moquis, namely basket weaving, which became one of their most important traits.
There community is one of agriculture and cattle raisers. They are producers and sellers. In the village their houses were called hogáns, which were simple structures without a hole in the apex. They are a very religious community with established deities, which meant many festivals or ceremonies in their honor. Today the tribe consists of just over 11,000 people.
